An Ahwahneechee Tale Of Half Dome
Long ago two travelers, Tissiak and her husband, Tokoyee, fought with each other.
He became so angry he began to beat her; enraged, she hurled her basket of acorns at him.
As the stood facing each other, they were turned to stone for their wickedness.
The acorn basket (Basket Dome) lies upturned besides Tokoyee (North Dome)
and the rock face of Tissiak (Half Dome) is stained with her tears.

I got to California in the Navy in August of 1971. I believe the first time I got to Yosemite was in the summer of 1972 to climb Half Dome. In the 1972-75 time frame, before I went to Japan for two years, I was probably in the Park half a dozen times. One May time frame, I remember being forced out of the valley by a snow storm and ending up at Angels Camp with Barry. (I didn't see the frog jumping as they wanted more than we wanted to pay). I also remember Lukens Lake near White Wolf several times with my fiancée Patty and others. (One time Larry got lost and ended up coming over Tioga Pass from Lake Tahoe, definitely not the shortest route from the Bay Area). Somewhere in the early to mid 80s I started going to Yosemite Valley for President's Day Weekend in February. Barry and I started in  the walk-in campground over by Yosemite Lodge. In Latter years Mike joined us and eventually we moved it to Lower Pines Campground. Lower Pines eventually gave way to Upper Pines Campground as the only open campground in the valley in February. (Besides Sunnyside Walk-in) In 30 years or so I have only missed February twice. In 1993 I was living in upstate New York and in 1997 I was working a side project on top of my regular job. We couldn't have gone anyway because the valley was closed because of flooding. I took my parents there when the were visiting us in Vallejo in 198x. In total I have been in the valley well over 40 times and in or through other portions of the park another 20 or so.
