Mount Rainier was dirty with the dust of the summer's rock avalanches, not pristine as it was in May
with it's fresh snowy mantel. The lower Inter Glacier was nothing but treacherous black ice and there was
only one rickety snow bridge still standing across the seemingly bottomless crevasse of the Bergschrund.
