| Dorothy S Shields was born in April 1913.
She was my mother's oldest sister. When their
mother was committed to a sanitarium in Poughkeepsie in 1932,
Dot took over the care of my 5 year old mother. My mother went
everywhere with her including on dates. My mother recalls
sitting in back rooms of bars being fed peanuts and soda. When
Dot married John (Jack) Cunningham in 1935 she was even willing
to continue taking care of her but their father said no. The Cunninghams
had four daughters Joan, Kay, Barbara and
Maureen. Dot died of
colon cancer just about retirement age on May 20th, 1975.
