Iceland Waterfalls
(Foss in Icelandic) |
Gooafoss (Waterfall
of the Gods) |
When the King of Norway dictated that all his
subject become Christian the local chief threw their pagan images into
the falls. He still gave his people the option of converting or not. |
Denttifoss |
Dentifoss was a bit of a hike
in the wind as well as a diversion off of Hwy 1. Some of the people
there had obviously come from the south or southwest because they
all said the wind was better than the rain from the remnants of
Hurricane Matthew. It was about .8km (1/2 mile)
from the parking lot. On the drive back to the ring road. huge dust
clouds were obscuring some of the horizon. |
Selfoss |
Selfoss (Upriver from
Dentifoss) We diverted on our hike on the return from
Denttifoss to get a good view of Selfoss. We didn't get real up close
and personal. |
Skogafoss |
527 steps bring you to the top of Skogafoss. |
Gullfoss |
Gullfoss on the Golden Circle is the most
visited waterfall in Iceland. It's relative closeness to Reykjavik
provides plenty of tourist. |

In Iceland everywhere you look
there is a waterfall making it down to the coastal plains from escarpments
fed from the inland highland wilderness. |
