USS Worden CG-18
I was stationed aboard the USS Worden
home ported in Yokosuka, Japan from May 1975 to April 1977.
When I reported aboard in May of 1975 Worden was a guided missile frigate (DLG-18) Latter reclassified as a Cruiser under SALT (CG-18)
After my time (Tomahawk instead of 3" 50 gun tubs) The Worden at Pearl Harbor
When originally commissioned thee Worden had no protection against close in threats except hand fired weapons. During the Viet Nam era a port and starboard dual three inch fifty gun was added for threats such as small close in craft. After my tour they replaced the guns with tomahawk which are seen looking like stacked fifty gallon drums towards the aft end of the main deck. We used to have bets on how many times each gun would fore before jamming. Usually neither gun would make it more than a few times. I don't remember reaching double digits.

The first time I saw a terrier launched it caught me off guard. I expected a loud whoosh but instead got a large bang then the whoosh. The missile breaks the sound barrier even before it's off the rail. If you are going to mail drugs to yourself it helps if you are the postal clerk.
