One of my friends Barry from the Bay Area wanted to go see the falls in Yosemite because they were discharging large amounts of water. ( Especially compared to February when we normally see them.) Against my better judgment I decided to go to Yosemite Valley on a weekend in June. Where he had to drive a little over 200 miles to get to the gate on Hwy 120, I had to drive 400 miles over Sonora Pass to get over the Sierra because Tioga Pass was still closed by snow and I wouldn't go through Bakersfield unless I had to. In over 30 years I have been going to Yosemite I had never seen Hetch Hetchy so that was the hook that caught me. We slept one night along the road to Hetch Hetchy then we lucked out and managed to get a camp site in Diamond-O campground for Saturday night. The valley on Saturday was ridiculous with bumper to bumper traffic and no parking.
