Sunrise over fresh snow on the Inyo Mountains Sunrise over Winnedumah Piaute Monument
The Winnedumah Piaute Monument is a 85 foot high rock spire that
 sits atop the 8200' ridge separating Owens and Saline Valleys. Taking
 Mazourka Rd and Lead Gulch out of Independence you can drive dirt to
about 6000'. It is about 6 1/2 hour round trip from there. You could
shave 1 1/2 hours off that if they hadn't closed the old mining road from
where you park. From the spire you can look down into both valleys. The
north side has been bolted for climbing
