The Winnedumah
Piaute Monument is a 85 foot high rock spire that sits atop the 8200' ridge separating Owens and Saline Valleys. Taking Mazourka Rd and Lead Gulch out of Independence you can drive dirt to about 6000'. It is about 6 1/2 hour round trip from there. You could shave 1 1/2 hours off that if they hadn't closed the old mining road from where you park. From the spire you can look down into both valleys. The north side has been bolted for climbing |
