   South Fork Big Pine Creek  Memorial Day Weekend 2005


     I went solo so I had to carry all the gear myself. I made a camp just inside the Wilderness overlooking Willow Lake, I didn't want to haul my 70 lbs pack any farther than I had to. I took a day hike up  above Brainard Lake overlooking Finger Lake from the southeast. (a little over 11,000 feet). I didn't see any obvious route up Middle Palisade but I did get in some good step kicking and ice axe use. I carried crampons and snow shoes but never had to use them. My camp at near 10,000 feet didn't even freeze at night.
