I spent 12 days and over 900 miles making a loop up US 395 to Crystal Basin (near Lake Tahoe), down through Vallejo and the San Joaquin Valley, and then  over 190 through Porterville and over the Kern Plateau and out Nine Mile Canyon back to US 395. I cut the corner bypassing Topaz, Minden, Gardnerville and South Lake Tahoe by going over Monitor Pass through Markleeville to US 50. I spent 4 days camping at Gerle Creek Reservoir with friends from the Bay Area and 2 days in Vallejo. I took a seven hour hike out of Onion Valley to rediscover a 100' spire I had found when climbing Kearsarge Peak.
