Loon Lake August 14 - 21, 2021 |
|
Loon Lake area was smoky |
|
The loon from 6 years ago was gone. Probably flew the coop to Duck
Lake |
I hadn't been anywhere except the property at Kennedy Meadows since
January. Had five nights reserved at Loon Lake with Barry, Joe and
James. They evacuated the campground after three. Tuesday morning we
were wondering where the ash was coming from. It turned out the Caldor
Fire started the day before we got there. They were evacuating Pollock
Pines so when we left I went down to Georgetown, over to Auburn and down
I80 instead of going near highway 50 and Placerville. I ended up in
Vallejo for a night then back to Kennedy Meadows. Drove 950 miles and 3
out of 8 days ended up working on the property again. |

Joe, his son James and James' dog Diamond |
No fires were allowed. The lake was much
higher than I expected. Union Valley into which it feeds after Gerle
Creek Reservoir was very low. |
The Tamarack Fire Markleville area |

Roadside damage from the Tamarack Fire near Markleville |
|
Thank You signs for the fire fighters |
I spent the first night near Conway Summit above Mono Lake. The next
day I drove to Loon Lake via Monitor Pass and through Myers and down
US50 to Wright's Lake Road to get into the Crystal Basin. |
Stumpy Meadows Reservoir |
|
|
The road to Georgetown went by Stumpy
Meadows. The lake was low and fire had ravaged the area some years ago.
I wondered if they had seeded the new pines that were growing. |
Kennedy Meadows |
|
Kennedy Peak was barely visible from Grumpy
Bears, the day I went home to Ridgecrest. The peak is about a mile away.
