Panamint Valley March 18-22, 2020
Part of Panamint Valley with Telescope Peak and Balarat
Sunset on the Panamint Range from camp I did check my mail occasionally (Actually there is a usable cell signal near that area from ?)
With the virus situation there were many people not having to go to work so they are out in the desert enjoying themselves. I had planned on staying out longer but decided they weren't going to be gone Monday. The camp area across from Rocky's store at Balarat had several encampments when I went by on the way out Sunday. Panamint Springs still had a lively business going when I was there Saturday. This time of year is the desert's tourist season and they hadn't closed the campgrounds in Death Valley yet. There was almost a dozen camps at Wildrose.
Wildrose Charcoal Kilns
The gate was locked at the kilns so you couldn't drive up to Mahogany Flats for a view of Death Valley. My lower back was bothering me so I didn't try and hike it as I have many times before. I just let Mya play in the snow for a little while.
Burros
One way baited gate tramp for wild burros on Trona Wildrose Road near the spring close to the end of the road. When I had been at Stripped Butte in Death Valley a few years ago it was really bad how the burros had trashed the springs.
Burros near Balarat in Panamint Valley. Unfortunately they are not doing anything to remove them. Besides the damage they do many of them aren't afraid of people or dogs anymore. They used to run from Mya but know they are just as likely to charge her.
