Beach Ridge, Sequoia National Forest August 10-23, 2020                                                                         All Images are HD (1920x1080)
A lightning fire over towards Trout Creek that was out the next time I went by. Unfortunately many small fires joined together in many parts of California and north. Climbing buddy Mike and I have rappelled down that rock face before.
Camp on Beach Ridge Mya on a Beach Ridge hike
I spent a couple weeks at one of my usual camps, overlooking the borrow pit just past the Blackrock work station junction towards Sherman Pass. I brought Mya home after about a week because of all the thunder, which  she doesn't like. Days of lightning strikes set many fires in California including the Castle Fire on the other side of the Kern River. I brought the trailer down because I wanted to pursue purchasing property in Kennedy Meadows. By then the fire had jumped the river and was heading towards Beach Ridge. Latter they closed the National Forest. I had been camping at the same camp when the Schaffer Fire closed the forest in 2017. As of September 14 the Castle Fire had burned 101,000 acres, still threatening the Blackrock work station area but really going nuts on the west side of the Kern River.
The Wild and Scenic South Fork of the Kern River. More like a creek from where I come from but it does drain a large area towards the drier eastern edge of the Sierra. I've seen it dry this time of year before. The forest service had abandoned the Kennedy Meadows campground for years but came back to block it off during Covid 19. The General Store had been maintaining it with a voluntary contributions to camp. Heard the forest service wants to plow it under. I have been using it now and then for 25 years.
