I decided to check out my ability to hike with an
inguinal
hernia and a truss. Made it over two miles and a thousand foot elevation
gain to past the Sunny Boy Mine cabin. About half way to Horton Lake.
Had to stop a few hundred yards before getting back to the Jeep because
I felt like I was going to throw up. Damn umbilical hernia problem which
should go away after the inguinal is fixed. Parked the Grand Cherokee at
the wilderness boundary gate. Ran into almost a dozen LA Sierra Club
people coming up to spend the night at Horton Lake before attempting
Basin Peak the next day. They had parked a mile and a half distance and
five hundred
elevation feet lower. Camped just below the trailhead near an unnamed
creek the first night (7,650') and near McGee
Creek (7,950') in a forest the second. |

Turn back view, unnamed pyramid shaped
peak behind Horton Lake which was a couple more miles and a thousand
feet higher than the 9,000' turn around. |
