| Panamint Valley Feb 27-Mar 1, 2017 |
 |
| Telescope Peak
(Almost 10,000 feet above the valley floor) |
 |
 |
| Found out that Water Canyon was no longer accessible
(Now apart of the Argus Range Wilderness) |

Slow on the camera after being low passed (Wish
I had my Gopro mounted and running.) |
| I wanted
to get out for a few days before going down to Spring Training games in
the Phoenix area. I had been planning on possibly hiking to the top of
the Panamint Valley dunes. I had been out to them before but hadn't
reached the apex. There were three vehicles parked at the Dunes
trailhead area until Tuesday morning but by then I had to replace a flat
tire and wanted to work my way towards home. I had also planned on
hiking the ridge above Town Pass to see if I could spy the remains of
the Death Valley albatross on the edge of Dolomite Canyon. I was
considering trying a grueling task of reaching it. I ended up exploring
the Big Four Mine which was perched high off the canyon floor. I need to
go back and get into some of the tunnels I couldn't reach because of
having my dog with me. |
| Big Four Mine |
 |
 |
 |
| Hard steep climb. I couldn't get to the
main tunnels because I was worried about Mya |
 |
 |
| We did check out one tunnel but didn't go all
the way back |
 |
 |
| A rocky camp near the Big Four Mine and a
flat tire getting out from it |
 |
| The Cottonwood Mountains (A
very convoluted and colorful strata of old sedimentary seabed) |
 |
| Lake Hill with snow covered Argus Range |
 |
 |
| The Panamint Valley Sand Dunes (Takes
several hours too hike out to them) |
Final camp was my usual Surprise Canyon cut off (Curtailed
planned activities because of the flat tire) |
