Obsidian Dome Camp September 10- |
|
The Minarets |
I like the area around Obsidian Dome at 8000'
it is cooler than Long Valley on one side and Mono Lake on the other.
There are few people in the area so the dog can run free, which is also
the cost of camping in the area. Had a snapped rear shock bolt on the
Jeep, a lot of clanging as it danced around the fuel lines from the
tank. No real damaged pulled shock and ran on three. Truck had a mostly
fried starter cable, it runs too close to the exhaust manifold. Played
tricks to get it started. (Usually in summer you have to let starter
cool before starting because it gets too hot from the manifold.) (Hell
is a place where auto design engineers go and they spend eternity having
to maintain vehicles with their bad designs, everybody else goes to
heaven.) |

Pumice Mine loader (incursion of recent volcanic
in the shadow of Sierra granite Ritter & Banner) |
Bird on the wing (some kind of hawk) |
|
Ghost trees (Mid September at
~10,000') Believe the rocky crag is Two Tears with the distant
peak in shade to it's right San Joaquin Peak (Round trip
took me ~4 hrs to do a little over 2 miles and ~ 2800' elevation change
) |
