Aspen Camp Ground 2014 October
11-16, 2014 |
|
14,375' Mount Williamson almost devoid of any snow. |
Actually Barry and I only stayed in Aspen Campground in Lee Vining
Canyon for 2 nights before it closed for the season on 10/13/14. Big
Bend and Moraine were already closed but Lower Lee Vining Creek remained
open. We decided for my normal camp area near Obsidian Dome for 3 nights
instead of the crowd at Lower Lee Vining Creek Campground. |

Minaret Vista |

Barry and I had taken two hikes in the area
headwaters of the San Joaquin River. (Both in the 80's) One was a loop
right in front of the Minarets. Neither of our cameras were working
properly and we got very few pictures to remember that one. The route
had taken us behind the mid ground ridge in front of and to the right of
the Minarets in the above picture. We had gone past Shadow Lake, Lake
Ediza and Minaret Lake to the Devil's Postpile. |

Mono Lake Tufa |
|
|
Mono Lake water level in October 2014
(drought and the end of normally dry summer season, before hopefully
good winter rains and snows) as compared to February 2005. Mono Lake
doesn't drain anywhere. Los Angles diverts its inflow from the
Sierra (Even though LA is about 350 miles south) The losses are
from evaporation |

Lundy Lake |
The last time Barry & I backpacked was
after his bypass surgery and before his emphysema took over. We backed
packed down to Lundy Lake from Sadlebaugh Lake. He hated the scree pile
