The Sierra (Mt Whitney in the center) from a
little south of the Cerro Gordo Spring area of the Inyo Mountains. |
While attempting to get from Cerro Gordo to the Salt Tram Summit station
I broke an engine mount about 8 miles out of camp at 9000' around Cerro
Gordo Spring. Luckily I was
still able to drive it with a hole in the radiator caused by the fan. Only
one section of hard uphill getting back to camp below Cerro Gordo at
5872'. Mike & Mya walked up the 500' elevation gain over 1/2 mile. I
stopped several times to let the engine cool and add water. |

Although the engine mount sheared the
three bolts off the block on the passenger side for the second time in a
couple of years, the bad mount was on the drivers side. The last time I
just replaced the bolts, this time I replaced both engine ,mounts as well
as the bolts and the radiator. Counting the $80 in gas to bring the camper
up and tow the Jeep home the experience only cost me about $250 total. |
