Cerro Gordo Road
The Sierra (Mt Whitney in the center) from a little south of the Cerro Gordo Spring area of the Inyo Mountains.
While attempting to get from Cerro Gordo to the Salt Tram Summit station I broke an engine mount about 8 miles out of camp at 9000' around Cerro Gordo Spring. Luckily I was still able to drive it with a hole in the radiator caused by the fan. Only one section of hard uphill getting back to camp below Cerro Gordo at 5872'. Mike & Mya walked up the 500' elevation gain over 1/2 mile. I stopped several times to let the engine cool and add water.
Camp for two nights Camp at sunrise
Racetrack Valley in Death Valley National Park (just above mid picture) from Cerro Gordo Springs area.
Although the engine mount sheared the three bolts off the block on the passenger side for the second time in a couple of years, the bad mount was on the drivers side. The last time I just replaced the bolts, this time I replaced both engine ,mounts as well as the bolts and the radiator. Counting the $80 in gas to bring the camper up and tow the Jeep home the experience only cost me about $250 total.
