Big Sur - US1
Typical California coast
Met my friend Barry at Big Sur for 3 days. Peiffer Big Sur State Park Campground isn't mentioned on the US1 or near the Lodge at the entrance area, but it's there. $35/night plus $10 for a second vehicle. Got a whopping $2 for being a senior making it $43/night. (Yosemite with senior discount costs me $10/night) There was a Forest Service Campground about 20 miles south but I always wanted to stay at Big Sur. Last time I was there Jackie & I paid to spend the night in the parking lot because it was full (200+ sites). The park includes the southern most Redwoods, although most of it was closed except for maybe 40 sites. We never had more than a dozen sites occupied, 5 or so by squatters (campground hosts). The Redwood sections were closed but a good place to run the dog because they were empty.
Barry sitting around camp Elephant Seals laying on the beach above San Simeon
Beach waterfall at Julia Peiffier-Burns State Park
I am a rock (bet the ocean wins eventually) Beach disappeared on each wave
Big Creek Bridge Ice Plant (winter red and not in bloom)
Tidal bay near downtown Baywood (Morro Bay - Sam Luis Obispo area) Final camp, west of Walker Pass at about 4000' (and 19 degrees in the morning)
I also managed to visit grandkids Tyler & Patience in Baywood. They are attending college in San Luis Obispo. Spent a night camping in their driveway and got to see 49ers beat Seattle on TV at their Uncle Joe's house near Cal Poly.
