Mt. Williamson.... is the second highest peak in California at 14,375' but is a much harder climb than the nearby higher Mt Whitney. It is a long hike in on a trail that takes you up to a saddle only to lose a considerable amount of elevation before climbing up to Shepherds Pass at around 12,000'. You lose again climbing down into Williamson bowl before finally going for the summit. Access is also limited to certain times of the year because it is in the California Bighorn Sheep Zoological Area. For various reasons it took me four attempts to summit Williamson.
