Olancha Peak viewed from the the west side
(Monache Meadows) is nothing like from the east. The Eastern Escarpment of the Sierra is a much more dramatic and a
harder elevation change. Where the summit towers 8,000' above the lower Owens Valley it is only about
3,000 gentler feet over Monache Meadows and the South Fork of the Kern River. (I don't know why it's the South Fork when it runs north & south
and is east of the main Kern River?)
