I arrived in Yokosuka in May of 1975
and had to wait a few weeks for my ship to return from Frequent
Winds (an evacuation effort in Indo-China at the end of the Viet
Nam conflict). Of the two years I spent on the Worden, 10
months were in the yards in Yokosuka and the longest cruise I
made was 3 months to Iran. (the advantage of being forward
deployed). The first year my wife Patty and I lived on the
economy (mostly next to the train station in Kinugasa) the
second year we got into Navy housing in Yokohama. Liberty ports
included Sasebo & Matsuyama Japan, Pussan & Chinhae
Korea, Subic Bay (Olongapo & Subic City) in the Philippines,
Hong Kong, Singapore, Colombo Sri Lanka (Ceylon), the Maldive Islands and
Bandar Abbas Iran.
