Albany

The Albany, New York area was settled by the Dutch following Henry Hudson's discovery of the area in 1609. Originally it was named Fort Orange (with New York City being New Amsterdam). In 1664 the Dutch surrendered the area to the British and in 1686 Albany as a city began.
I was born slightly after that time............. in 1951.

Albany lives by one thing, that is being the capital of The State of New York, an honor which was bestowed upon it in 1797. The Albany Congress (1754) helped unite the colonist with the Iroquois Indians against the French and was a precursor to the Declaration of Independence.

Basically the Albany area is old and stoic and that is one of the multitude of reason why I no longer live there.
